It’s not too often that we talk about local/state taxes. With a state income tax, those of us in Texas tend to have it pretty easy. But for those of you keeping up with the news, you may have heard about a new sick leave ordinance that was originally scheduled to go into effect October 1, 2018 (or not until 2020, depending on the number of employees you have).
The ordinance is supposed to require offering one hour of sick time for every 30 hours worked. Just recently, a state appeals court blocked the ordinance, so at stands now, Austin businesses won’t necessarily be required to offer sick time. But as with any new legislation, things can sometimes happen quickly, so be prepared in case it does end up going into effect.
